GHANA REJECTS RAMAPHOSA STATE VISIT TO GHANA DUE TO XENOPHOBIA CONCERNS

The Ghanaian government has reportedly declined a request for a state visit by Cyril Ramaphosa, according to Ghanaian officials who spoke to DW.

The proposed visit, which was expected to take place in early August, was reportedly turned down amid heightened tensions following recent xenophobic violence in South Africa.

Officials in Ghana said the decision was made to avoid possible public protests and backlash while emotions over the attacks remain high. They emphasized that the safety and dignity of Ghanaian citizens remain a top priority.

According to the officials, Accra has urged Pretoria to take concrete measures to address the attacks and ensure the protection of foreign nationals before any future high-level state visit can be considered.

The reported development comes as concerns continue to grow over the impact of xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals living in South Africa.
