GENERAL KANENE ESCAPES DEATH AMID VIOLENT UPND ATTACK

In the heart of Shibunji District, a campaign rally turned into a nightmarish scene of violence and chaos, marked by an armed assault that left musician Clifford Dimba—known to fans as General Kanene—injured but alive.

The incident erupted in Nampeya Ward, Munyati Area, as supporters gathered to hear speeches from independent Parliamentary hopeful Ibrahim Kabwe Mwamba, Council Chairperson hopeful Mutumba Denise, and General Kanene himself.

The rally was suddenly disrupted when a Toyota Land Cruiser, reportedly carrying UPND thugs wielding machetes, swooped in like a storm on the peaceful assembly.

According to Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi, the attackers, UPND-affiliated militants, unleashed violence with brutal efficiency.

They assaulted General Kanene, inflicting several deep gashes on his head, while looting cash and valuables amidst the turmoil.

In the mayhem, a Mitsubishi Triton truck bearing Mwamba’s registration (BAZ 5004) was vandalized.

Preliminary investigations reveal a calculated ambush rather than a spontaneous outbreak—suggesting political motivations beneath the surface of the violence.

The image of machetes flashing under the harsh sun, the roar of engines, and the chaos of fleeing crowds paint a vivid tableau of lawlessness in a space meant for democratic expression.
