FORMER SPY BOSS CHUNGU ENDORSES MUNDUBILE
Xavier Franklin Chungu, the Presidential Candidate for the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) for the General Election on 13th August 2026 and former spy boss, addressed the nation from prison, having been detained on 28th May 2026 without due legal process.
Despite securing bail on 4th June, he was rearrested the following day with new charges, which were also bailable but delayed by the prosecution.
Chungu asserts that this experience reflects a broader issue of political oppression, emphasizing that democracy thrives when competition is fair and free from fear.
After considerable reflection, he has decided to withdraw his candidacy, prioritizing the country’s interests over his own ambitions.
He has endorsed Honourable Brian Mundubile of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) for the presidency and urged his supporters to campaign for him.
Chungu expresses hope that Zambia will choose democracy and unity over division, encouraging voters to stand with Mundubile on election day.
