FORMER PASTOR NEVERS MUMBA REJECTED IN PAMBASHE
The former pastor and chief sycophant for Dictator Hakainde Hichilema has long ridiculed the Tonse Pamodzi alliance for fielding two candidates in some constituencies.
He dismissed it as proof of disorganization and a lack of seriousness.
Ironically, the Zambian Whistleblower has now uncovered that Mumba’s own party the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD), hastily rebranded as the New Nation Party (NNP) has done exactly the same in Pambashe constituency.
Elizabeth Chitika, Secretary General of the NNP, is contesting the Pambashe seat. At the same time, the United Party for National Development (UPND) has fielded its own candidate, Justine Kapema.
Chitika was not adopted on the UPND alliance ticket, despite her senior position in the alliance.
Many residents in Pambashe have told her they reject Dictator Hichilema but are willing to support her and opposition figures such as Brian Mundubile.
Dictator Hichilema reportedly asked her to resign her position to clear the way for the UPND candidate. She refused.
Local residents have been blunt with her: if Nevers Mumba and his alliance members come to campaign in Pambashe, people will not vote for her. Chitika has conveyed this message to Mumba, but he remains determined to push ahead.
She knows the ground realities better than the party leadership in Lusaka and has advised accordingly but her advice is falling on deaf ears.
Here are some questions that need answering by former pastor Mumba; If the NNP is genuinely in alliance with the UPND, why not direct the UPND candidate to step aside in Pambashe?
Why was Mumba’s own Secretary General not adopted as the alliance candidate for the constituency?
How many ordinary NNP members have actually been adopted or given meaningful influence within the UPND alliance structures? Or is this alliance similar to the arrangement involving Felix Mutati’s party where only the leader enjoys the benefits while the rest of the party gets little or nothing?
