Losing Makeni Constituency parliamentary candidate for the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) under the Tonse Alliance led by Brian Mundubile, Ms. Kavumbu Hakachima, has appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema to consider her for national service.
Ms. Hakachima, who went back to school in 2024 to pursue Development Studies, says her motivation is to serve Zambia.
In a statement issued this morning, Ms. Hakachima reflected on her personal journey and called on Parliament to revisit the law that bars losing candidates from being appointed as ministers.
“This morning I sat at my usual intuition point and thought about why I went back to school in 2024 to do Development Studies. I had high hopes,” she said.
“I think Parliament must change the law that says if you lose an election you can’t be appointed minister. I am saying so because women like me can’t be wasted because we have lost an election. I have a lot to offer my country,” she stated.
Ms. Hakachima, who contested the August 13, 2026 general election on the NRPUP ticket, said her life story from a humble village background to the international stage has prepared her to contribute to national development.
“Having grown up in the village, fought hard to get an education, achieved so much from the village all the way to the international level, I want to work for my country. I refuse to stay home,” she said.
She concluded with a direct appeal: “Ba President Hakainde Hichilema, I want to serve my country. May you do something, Boss!”
Ms. Hakachima said capable women who lose elections should not be left out of governance.
