Fashion, Patson, Frankie to miss out in AFCON qualifiers

ZAMBIAN strikers, Fashion Sakala and Patson Daka as well as defender, Frankie Musonda will miss out on the back-to-back 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier matches against Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone.

Daka and Musonda will be missing in action due to injuries that the two players are currently experiencing.

Chipolopolo coach, Avram Grant this afternoon through Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Communications Manager, Sydney Mungala named his 27 man squad for the qualifiers.

While reasons as to why Daka and Musonda were mentioned, it remains unknown as to why Zambian Forward, Fashion Sakala was not listed.

Zambia will be playing Ivory Coast on September 6, around 21:00 hours at the Stade Bouake stadium in Côte d’Ivoire.

The squad selected includes m, Goal keepers; Lawrence Mulenga, Toaster Nsabata and Cixtor Chabu.

Among the defenders; Gift Mphande, Killian Languluma, Kabaso Chongo, Tendai Mwape, Dominic Chanda, Stoppilla Sunzu, and Zacharia Chilongoshi.

In the midfield, Grant has picked Miguel Chaiwa, Obinno Chisala, Benson Sakala, Lubambo Musonda, Kelvin Mpundu, Kenneth Kasanga, Kings Kangwa, Clatous Chama, Lameck Banda, Joseph Banda and Kelvin Kampamba.

And in the goal scoring position are strikers; Kennedy Musonda, Kingstone Mutandwa, Angel Lubamba, Ricky Banda, Edward Chilufya and Songa Chipyoka.

Mungala said the departure time for the local players for their first game will be on Monday after playing their weekend games.

“The list will be down to 23 at the time of  departures. The local players will assemble after playing their weekend games,” said Mungala.

Zambia will be playing its return game on Tuesday September 10 against Sierra Leone around 21:00 hours at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
