CLEAN YOUR BUILDING FIRST – LUSAKA RESIDENT TELLS Simon Chitambala

Mwewa My Appeal to the Lusaka Mayor Simson Mwewa Chitambala:

Firstly, Your Worship, your Simson Building along Lumumba Road looks dirty and does not reflect the image of a clean and modern Lusaka.

Since one of your campaign messages was to keep Lusaka clean, you should consider renovating, redesigning, or even demolishing and rebuilding the structure into something more attractive that will improve the appearance of the city.

Secondly, you should understand that you are now the Mayor of this great city of Lusaka. Running a city is different from running a building with 100 rooms. Street vendors are not your tenants, and they are not foreigners; they are your fellow Zambians trying to make a living and provide for their families.

The late President Michael Chilufya Sata, after winning his first term, said that street vendors should not be chased from the streets before finding places where they could trade. Unfortunately, he passed away before he could fulfil that promise.

Your Worship, do not make decisions without consulting the people affected. Before removing vendors from the streets, provide proper places where they can conduct their businesses. Development should go together with compassion and solutions that protect the livelihoods of ordinary Zambians.
