ECL’s resignation created vacancy, says Sampa
MILES Sampa, the embattled Patriotic Front (PF) president, has defended his election, arguing that former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s resignation created a vacancy.
Mr Sampa, contended that Article 46(3) provides for an extraordinary general conference to elect a new party president.
The petitioners, nine expelled PF members, seek to nullify Mr Sampa’s election as party president, citing irregularities.
Mr Sampa, also Matero Member of Parliament, in his defence filed in the Lusaka High Court, argued that he was duly elected as party president, as there was a vacancy created by Mr Lungu’s resignation.
