Don’t wear bumshorts coming to Levy Hospital, LMUTH warns visitors
LEVY Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital —LMUTH has issued a blunt message to members of the public: don’t come to the hospital wearing bum shorts, crop tops or vests.
In a strongly worded appeal, the hospital urges visitors to dress appropriately whenever they visit the facility, stressing that proper attire is not just about appearance but also plays a role in infection prevention and maintaining hygiene.
“DON’T COME WEARING BUM SHORTS, YOCHITILAMO. APOLOGISE. OLO CROP TOP NA VESTI KU HOSPITAL NAPAPATA!” the hospital says in Facebook post.
LMUTH, which attends to more than 1,000 outpatients and inpatients every day across specialised departments including Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Surgery and Intensive Care, says everyone has a responsibility to help keep the hospital environment clean and safe.
The hospital explains that revealing clothing exposes more skin to shared surfaces such as waiting room chairs, benches, examination couches, handrails and elevators, which are touched by thousands of people every day and may become contaminated between cleaning cycles despite regular disinfection.
According to LMUTH, while clothing alone cannot prevent infections, wearing attire that adequately covers the body provides an extra protective barrier between the skin and commonly used surfaces. The Hospital says it also helps reduce direct contact and offers protection against accidental splashes or exposure in busy clinical areas.
The hospital has since advised members of the public to regularly wash or sanitise their hands, avoid touching their faces, observe proper cough and respiratory hygiene, follow instructions from healthcare workers, and wear clean, appropriate clothing that provides adequate body coverage.
LMUTH says dressing appropriately is a simple but important step in protecting patients, visitors and healthcare workers.
“Dress for health. Cover up, stay clean, and help keep LMUTH safe for everyone,” the hospital urges.
