Corruption, Economic Hardships Threaten Zambia’s Future
Lusaka, Zambia – A group of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) has sounded the alarm on Zambia’s growing governance, economic, and social challenges, warning that inaction could destabilize the nation.
Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) Executive Director Maurice Nyambe, speaking on behalf of the consortium, expressed deep concern over the escalating corruption that has tarnished the country’s reputation. “Corruption is eating away at Zambia’s progress. Without immediate action, we risk losing both local and international trust,” said Nyambe.
The CSOs criticized the government for failing to address economic hardships, including rising inflation and high unemployment, which are pushing more Zambians into poverty. “Ordinary citizens are suffering. The government must act now to provide relief and promote economic fairness,” Nyambe added.
Social inequalities also took center stage, with the organizations highlighting the uneven access to basic services like health and education. They called for stronger social protection programs to bridge the gap and promote equity.
The group urged the government to prioritize transparency, strengthen oversight institutions, and invest in inclusive development. They also proposed a national dialogue to find lasting solutions to these pressing challenges.
“Zambia’s stability is at stake. The time for action is now,” the CSOs cautioned.
The organizations emphasized their commitment to partnering with the government but warned that ignoring these issues could fuel social unrest and erode democracy.
