COPPERBELT STUDENT UNIONS BACK HH IN AUGUST POLLS

A consortium of student unions on the Copperbelt has declared its support for President Hakainde Hichilema ahead of the August general election.

The student bodies include the Kitwe Vocational Training Centre, Luanshya Technical and Vocational Teachers’ College (TVTC), Luanshya Technical and Business College (LTBC), Ndola Teaching Hospital, and the Zambia Institute of Business Studies and Industrial Practice (ZIBSIP).

The students, led by National Council of Student Unions (NACOSU) Vice Chairperson Lloyd Nsonga, met in Kitwe where they issued a joint statement endorsing President Hichilema’s re-election bid.

Copperbelt University Student Union President Given Chipewo said electing any other candidate would jeopardise the economic progress the country has recorded under the current administration.

Mr. Chipewo urged fellow students and young people to safeguard the gains made by supporting President Hichilema in the upcoming polls.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nsonga described President Hichilema as a friend of students, citing his commitment to improving their welfare through policies aimed at expanding access to education and creating opportunities for young people.
