CHURCH MOTHER BODIES MERGE NATIONAL PRAYER DAY WITH CHRISTIAN NATION COMMEMORATION
LUSAKA — Zambia’s Church Mother Bodies have agreed to combine the National Day of Prayer and the Commemoration of Zambia as a Christian Nation into one national event.
The consolidated observance will be known as the National Day of Prayer and Christian Heritage, with the first major commemoration under the new arrangement scheduled for December 29, 2026.
Council of Churches in Zambia Vice President Bishop Juden Siachitema says this year’s National Day of Prayer will still take place, but there will be no single national gathering because the date falls on a Sunday.
Instead, churches have been encouraged to dedicate their regular Sunday services to prayer for the nation.
Bishop Siachitema says the decision follows consultations between the Church Mother Bodies and Government, with the unified observance aimed at promoting unity, peace and reconciliation.
