CHIEF RECOVERS PHONE STOLEN AT NCWALA

Chief Mnukwa of the Ngoni has recovered his mobile phone that was stolen from Laweni palace where the Mpezeni receives visitors during the Ncwala traditional ceremony last month.

The traditional leader, who was in charge of receiving and ushering guests into Laweni to meet the Ngoni paramount chief during the ceremony, had his smartphone stolen.

“It must have been stolen from Laweni during the time I was receiving visitors and taking them to Inkosi Yama Nkosi,” he said.

“It was during the same period that I must have left it on the window and someone took it and replaced my sim cards.”

Chief Mnukwa said the phone was recovered from a certain woman from Lusaka who had allegedly replaced the sim cards.

The traditional leader said the mobile phone is damaged despite being recovered.

About 25 mobile phones were reported stolen during the Nc’wala ceremony at Mtenguleni village on February 22.

Eastern Province police commanding officer Limpo Liywalii said police recorded 26 cases of theft of mobile phones at the main arena of the Ncwala traditional ceremony.

Chief Madzimawe also noted that people lost valuables, with some women reporting that they had their wigs pulled out from their heads.

“This Ncwala was one of the most attended traditional ceremonies,” he said.
