Chief Justice cheats death as speeding BMW bashes his official vehicle
THE Country’s Chief Justice Mumba Malila last evening survived with minor injuries, a road traffic accident that has left his driver seriously injured and admitted to the University Teaching Hospital.
The Judiciary Boss was heading home from work when the accident happend on Independence Avenue opposite the Civic Centre in Longacres around 19:00 hours.
From the accident Justice Malila is said to have sustained a cut on the forehead, left eye, and left leg and was immediately evacuated to Maina Soko Military Hospital.
Justice Malila’s official driver Newton Njovu who was driving the GRZ 1 Mercedes Benz sustained serious injuries and is currently admitted to the University Teaching Hospital, according to Zambia Police Service spokesperson Rae Hamoonga.
In a statement on the accident, Hamoonga explained that a speeding BMW, Registration Number BAP 3706 heading towards the Lusaka High Court lost control due to excessive speed veered off its lane and rammed into Justice Malila’s vehicle.
Hamoonga said the impact caused the BMW to hit two other vehicles that werebl parked at the Civic Centre Bus Stop, a Toyota Hilux and Toyota Hiace.
Following the accident, Chisambisha-Slavin, the Judiciary deputy director- corporate communications said; “The Chief Justice is currently at the hospital and is stable”.
