CHIEF BUNDA BUNDA DETHRONED ON ACCOUNT OF SUPREME COURT RULING

FOLLOWING the Supreme Court ruling, current Chief Bundabunda (Kausa Mwachindalo) has been dethroned.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Kashimbi family should take over the throne of the Bundabunda chiefdom following the death of Patrick Chakalashi, who Mr Mwachindalo took over from as Chief Bundabunda 10 years ago.

Mr Mwachindalo and Felix Kandolo from the Tubi-Kalifu family appealed against a ruling in favour of Matthews Musona, Lingson Patama and Jackson Nyangu, who are from the Kashimbi family.

This emanated from a Court of Appeal decision of April 22, 2020, which nullified the installation of Mr Mwachindalo as Chief Bundabunda of the Soli Shamifwi clan in Rufunsa.

The Court of Appeal ordered that a new chief should instead be chosen from the Kashimbi family.

According to the court documents, Mr Chakalashi, the reigning Chief Bundabunda of the Soli Shamifwi clan, “expired” on February 23, 2013.
