BUUMBA MALAMBO BEHIND THE LUSAKA NATIONAL PARK LAND SCANDAL
Kafue Council Chairperson, Buumba Malambo, has been named as the Government official behind the delianation and sale of land in the Lusaka National Wildlife Park.
The land is under Kafue Council near Chisankane Ward.
Buumba is said to have allocated the land to UPND cadres who have proceeded to sell it to Ministers and State House officials.
“The Council offered plots in the protected land to cadres for about K34,000 which were never paid for and cadres held more than 2 to 3 plots each in conspiracy with the council and later sold the plots to unsuspecting public and senior government officials for the values between K154,000 to K400,000 each. This conspiracy was effective because it was facilitated by the senior cadre at the council level by the council chairperson.” the source said.
Government through the Ministry of Lands has announced that it will demolish all structures that have been built in the Lusaka National Park.
Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Elijah Muchima stated that
Government, through the Ministry of Lands will demolish all lands despite the persons involved.
Earlier this week, officials from the Ministry of Tourism and the Department of National Wildlife, undertook a tour of the encroached land.
But they were stopped by Ministry of Green Economy Director and UPND cadre, Larry Mweetwa who warned the government officials to tread carefully as senior government officials owned the land.
Mweetwa said the new owners of this land in the national park will not hesitate to go to court.- PF
