BUILDING A BETTER TEAM, ONE LESSON AT A  TIME”: COACH CAROL KANYEMBA ON COPPER PRINCESSES ‘S WORLD CUP JOURNEY

Fresh from their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup campaign in the Dominican Republic, the team returned home, having faced tough matches against Brazil, Poland, and Japan in Group D of the tournament’s eighth edition.

Head coach Carol Kanyemba shared her  insights into the team’s journey, acknowledging both the challenges and invaluable experiences gained. “The experience at the World Cup was good for me as a coach, the technical bench, and the players as well,” Kanyemba expressed. Although the Copper Princesses couldn’t bring home the results fans had hoped for, Kanyemba was quick to emphasize the importance of the lessons they learned along the way. “Football being what it is, we have learned a lot at the tournament and we look forward to becoming better coaches and players, delivering good results in future tournaments.”

Looking ahead, Kanyemba highlighted the team’s determination to prepare rigorously for upcoming events. “We have another World Cup coming up next year, so the COSAFA will be our preparation for the World Cup qualifiers. We need to come up with a better team and get goals at the tournament. We need to score goals from the midfielders up to the striking force,” she noted.

This World Cup experience, Kanyemba believes, is not just a stepping stone but a foundation for growth. With renewed motivation and a clear focus on building a stronger team, the coach remains optimistic about the future of the Copper Princesses. The journey may have been challenging, but every step has brought the team closer to their goals.
