APOLOGISE TO MUMBI PHIRI FOR PLOTTING TO JAIL HER FOR A CRIME SHE DID NOT COMMIT – BREBNER CHANGALA TELLS HICHILEMA’S GOVT

HUMAN Rights Activist Brebner Changala has demanded for an apology from President Hakainde Hichilema’s regime for scheming to take former Permanent representative to the African Union, Mumbi Phiri to prison for a longtime on a crime she did not commit.
Changala, once a friend and compatriot of President Hichilema says the UPND hatred for Mumbi Phiri is teeth garnishing, adding that detaining a mother, a wife and a grandmother for a crime she did not commit was evil.
Phiri, who was in 2022 detained for another crime of murder she did not commit, a non-bondable and non-bailable offence was once again arrested this year for another non bailable charge of aggravated robbery was conspicuously released when the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Gilbert Phiri refused to politically prosecute her.
Nkw, Changala is demanding an apology from the State on behalf of former Patriotic Front Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri for wrong detention.
Police in Kawambwa released Phiri, who was facing alleged aggravated robbery charges following a decision by the DPP to decline prosecution due to lack of evidence.
Phiri had been arrested in connection with allegations of stealing K20,000 in cash and an Infinix phone valued at K3,800 from Boldwin Chilambikwa of Kawambwa District in Luapula Province during campaigns for the Kawambwa parliamentary by-election last month.
Changala says it was clear from the beginning that Phiri was innocent as the charge she was given was not coinciding with the crime that was alleged to have been committed.
Meanwhile, PF vice president Given Lubinda says the party is not surprised with the dismissal of charges and release from incarceration of Phiri as it was always known that the charges of aggravated robbery and assault earlier leveled against her were intended to victimize her.
