Another Zimbabwean has reportedly died while fighting in the Russia-Ukraine war, according to reports.

The deceased has only been identified as Tanaka. Reports claim he lost his life while serving with the Russian military, although the exact circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been made public.

His reported death adds to the growing number of Zimbabweans believed to have died after joining the conflict. Reports suggest that some foreign recruits have been attracted by financial incentives reportedly offered during recruitment, including:

Sign-up bonus: US$20,000 to US$37,000 (approximately R328,000 to R606,000).

Monthly salary: US$2,500 to US$4,500 (approximately R41,000 to R74,000 per month).

The Russia-Ukraine war has drawn foreign nationals from several countries, with many joining through military recruitment programmes. However, rights groups and international observers have repeatedly warned about the significant dangers faced by foreign recruits, as well as the heavy casualties suffered on the battlefield.
