ALL POLICE OFFICERS INVOLVED IN CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES WILL BE ROOTED OUT – MWIIMBU

HOME Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu says all police officers involved in criminal activities will be rooted out from the service.

This is in light of the recent brutal murder of Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Director General Guntila Muleya who was shot dead last Wednesday.

Speaking at a media briefing this afternoon, Mwiimbu stated that the Zambia police is using advanced techniques to investigate the murder of Muleya.

“No stone will be left unturned in bringing to book the perpetrators for this senseless act. The Zambia Police is determined to ensure that those police officers are rooted out of the service. We will do everything possible to ensure that those involved in criminal activities are brought to book,” said Mwiimbu.

“I will thoroughly investigate this matter and ensure that such activities are not repeated. police officers must serve with integrity, education and professionally. All police officers found wanting will be dealt with accordingly.”

The Minister reiterated that his ministry will ensure that the Zambia Police Service does not in any way protect fellow officers who are involved in this heinous act.

He also called in the general public to assist Government with concrete information in the venture to cleanse the service.

He assured the nation that those with any information on the murder of Muleya or other criminal activities will be protected by the state.

“I would like to assure whistleblowers that we will provide security. It’s in the interest of the Zambia Police that we protect those who give us information. In the event that their identity is revealed we will provide security. This mode of criminality is unusual in this country where people hire others to kill people. Assist us. On our own we may not be able to do it and cleanse the service,” he said.

“It’s in the interest of the nation that we provide the requisite support. We remain  committed to ensure that all investigations are investigated and concluded to the satisfaction of the public.”
