AIPAC URGES KCM AND CEC TO RESOLVE DISPUTES AMICABLY FOR SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

….Swift resolution crucial for restoring Copperbelt’s economic growth

Lusaka, Zambia – April 16, 2025

The Acton Institute for Policy Analysis Centre (AIPAC) urges Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) to resolve their disputes amicably. We believe that addressing challenges in a boardroom setting will enable KCM to operate effectively and efficiently, ultimately restoring socioeconomic development on the Copperbelt.

We note that the full operations at KCM were only restored in July last year and that Vedanta Resources should be given time to settle at the mine
Given Vedanta’s recent takeover of KCM’s mining operations, finding a swift resolution is crucial. Prolonged disputes can hinder mining activities, and collective action is necessary to address economic distresses. AIPAC’s stance is that all stakeholders should work together to promote economic growth and stability.

“A swift resolution will not only benefit KCM and CEC but also contribute significantly to Zambia’s overall growth,”

We hope that the two institutions (KCM & CEC) will put the interest of the people first knowing too well that the country cannot afford to see KCM start struggling again.

Thank you!
