ACC OPPOSES KAMPYONGO’S WIFE’S APPEAL
THE Anti-Corruption Commission has opposed the appeal of Wanziya Chirwa, the wife of Shiwang’andu PF MP Stephen Kampyongo, in the Economic and Financial Crimes Court, High Court Division.
The Commission has told the court that her appeal ought to be dismissed as her grounds lack merit. On September 27, 2024, Lusaka Magistrate Sylvia Munyinya convicted and sentenced Chirwa to three years’ simple imprisonment for being in possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime.
The court, however, acquitted Kampyongo, who was jointly charged with his wife, for corruption. Chirwa then appealed the conviction and sentence in the High Court. But according to the heads of arguments filed in the High Court, the ACC opposes Chirwa’s appeal.
