A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO FORMER PF MAFINGA MP ,MR ROBERT CHABINGA
Politics can be a great teacher, but sometimes its lessons are delivered through defeat.
To the former Member of Parliament for Mafinga Constituency, Robert Chabinga, I say this: take this moment seriously—not as the end of your political journey, but as an opportunity for deep reflection and renewal.
I have been one of your fiercest critics, and I will not pretend otherwise. I criticised your conduct, your politics and, at times, what I considered to be an arrogance that had become increasingly difficult to ignore. You exhibited an unusual level of political courage, sometimes to a fault. But today, the people of Mafinga have spoken, and their verdict must be respected.
Perhaps, in the complicated game of politics, you were sometimes being used as a pawn without fully realising it. In the process, you lost touch with some of the very people whose support made your political journey possible. Eventually, the people had their say.
And yes, on a lighter note, I am happy that the people have taught you a little humility. Sometimes political defeat teaches lessons that victory never can.
But I don’t celebrate your downfall.
Mr Robert Chabinga, you are still a young man. You have time, ability and political potential. This should therefore be a period of rebuilding, not bitterness.
Use this moment to look inward. Apologise to those you may have wronged. Reconnect with those you may have alienated. Rebuild relationships. Listen more than you speak. Walk among the people again—not as a politician seeking votes, but as a son of the community seeking to understand his people.
Politics is not always about winning every battle. Sometimes losing one battle gives you the wisdom required to win the bigger one.
My hope is that you will emerge from this experience wiser, humbler and stronger. Do not allow defeat to turn into resentment. Allow it to become a teacher.
Mr Chabinga, my young man😅 of all times , find yourself again. Rebuild. Reflect. Learn. And when the time comes, come back stronger. The people of Mafinga have not finished your political career, they have just given you an opportunity to reflect and come back better and stronger.
Mafinga has taught you a difficult lesson—but perhaps it is a lesson that will ultimately make you a better leader.
Defeat is not the graveyard of ambition; sometimes, it is the classroom where leadership is rebuilt.
Wishing you wisdom, courage and strength for the road ahead. 🇿🇲
