POLICE DISPERSE STUDENTS GATHERED TO HEAR FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU

The Zambia Police Service says it dispersed, without incident, 40 students from various colleges and universities who were transported to Cresta Lodge off Twin Palm Road near Pick n Pay in Lusaka to be addressed by former President Edgar Lungu.

Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga says the episode occurred around 13:00 hours on December 5, 2024, following intelligence information.

Hamoonga indicates that Lungu was expected to address the students; however, the meeting, chaired by Raphael Nakachinda, was interrupted by police before the former President could speak.

He states that the organizers and attendees were advised to follow established protocols by notifying the police before conducting such public gatherings.

Hamoonga has urged all citizens to adhere to legal procedures when organizing public assemblies and to cooperate with law enforcement authorities to maintain peace and order.
