FALL ARMYWORMS SPREAD TO ALL 17 CAMPS IN NDOLA DISTRICT
The Ndola District Agriculture Office has disclosed that the infestation of fall armyworms has spread across all 17 camps in the district, affecting 390 hectares of land.
And District Agriculture Officer Philip Kalima says since the district has not yet received chemicals to combat the armyworms, farmers are now using traditional mixtures to manage the spread.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Kalima has disclosed that more than 1,005 households are affected, with an infestation rate of 28.2 percent.
Mr. Kalima says the affected camps include Kaniki and, Msaka, Nakolwe, Mwekera, Isoma, Kafubu, Mukopaulo, Kavu and Nakupata farming block, among other affected areas.
He says to avoid extensive damage of crops, extension officers are on the ground guiding farmers on the effective pest control measures.
