Jah Prayzah Postpones Wedding Following Chivayo Death
Zimbabwean musician Jah Prayzah has indefinitely postponed his wedding, which was scheduled for this Saturday.
The postponement follows the death of businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who was closely linked to the celebrations. Chivayo bankrolled the coming of Chimurenga music guru Thomas Mapfumo, who was paid US$1 million to perform at the wedding.
The decision was announced through a wedding notice, with no new date provided.
Chivayo and his wife Lucy “Lulu” Muteke were among six people killed in a helicopter crash in Marondera on Wednesday.
The businessman had been closely involved in preparations for Jah Prayzah’s wedding and had announced plans for legendary musician Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo to perform at the event.
Mapfumo had travelled to Zimbabwe ahead of the wedding, which was expected to draw prominent figures from the country’s entertainment and business circles.
The postponement comes as Zimbabwe continues to mourn Chivayo and the other victims of the crash.
Jah Prayzah is yet to announce a new date for the wedding.
