ARCHBISHOP BANDA DENIES UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF ZRA VEHICLE, GRANTED K80,000 BAIL

Lusaka Archbishop Dr. Alick Banda has pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of property reasonably believed to have been unlawfully obtained, in connection with a motor vehicle suspected to have been improperly disposed of by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).
The Lusaka Magistrates Court has granted Dr. Banda K80,000 bail in his own recognisance, with three working sureties, each required to provide a K50,000 undertaking.
He has also been ordered to surrender all his travel documents.
Appearing before Magistrate Mwandu Nakazwe, Dr. Banda’s case has been adjourned to 14th October 2026 for mention, with trial set to commence on 3rd November 2026.
The court proceedings follow his earlier arrest and formal charge by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), which alleges that Dr. Banda was in possession of a blue Toyota Hilux, registration number AOF 7734, between 22nd April 2021 and 27th December 2023, on dates unknown.
