TANZANIA DENIES MEDDLING IN ZAMBIA’S 2026 ELECTION

Tanzania has strongly denied allegations by NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile that it sent people to disrupt Zambia’s August 13, 2026 General Election.

In a statement issued on August 17, 2026, Tanzania’s Chief Government Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, said the allegations have been taken seriously.

Msigwa said Tanzania, through its High Commission in Zambia, has formally written to the Zambian Government seeking detailed clarification on the claims.

Tanzania has assured its citizens and the international community that it did not send anyone to interfere with or disrupt Zambia’s elections, stressing that such conduct is not part of its foreign policy or culture.

Msigwa explained that Tanzanian officials in Zambia were participating as part of the SADC Election Observation Mission, alongside observers from other member states.

He stressed that their mandate was strictly to observe the electoral process under SADC guidelines, with neutrality, respect for Zambia’s sovereignty and non-interference.

The denial comes as Zambia’s presidential results continue to be tallied and verified by the Electoral Commission of Zambia amid heightened political tensions.

Tanzania says it remains committed to cordial relations with Zambia, regional cooperation and respect for the sovereignty of SADC member states.
