Mr. Hichilema’s victory secures him a second 5-year term in office and is expected to focus on growing the economy and improving the standard of living for Zambians, in line with his campaign promises

Announcing the results early this morning, electoral commission of Zambia -ECZ- chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis said although results from 5 constituencies had not been received, she was mandated to announce the winner as the outstanding results were not likely to materially influence the overall outcome of the election.

And in a Facebook post shortly after being declared winner, Mr. Hichilema has thanked Zambians for re-electing him to serve a second term as president of Zambia.

He said he was humbled by the trust Zambians had placed in his hands to hold the nation’s highest office once more and has described the election as a demonstration to the world of Zambia’s commitment to peace, law and order, and democracy.
