President Hakainde Hichilema has maintained his lead over NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile as consolidated presidential results continue to come in from across the country.
So far, consolidated results from 105 of the 226 constituencies announced show Hichilema with 1,056,812 votes, while Mundubile has accumulated 830,841 votes, putting the incumbent ahead by 225,971 votes at this stage of the tally.
The latest batch of constituency results shows the two leading candidates continuing to trade victories across different regions, with Hichilema posting commanding margins in parts of Southern, North-Western and Western provinces, while Mundubile has registered strong performances in Eastern, Muchinga, Northern and parts of the Copperbelt.
In Southern Province, Hichilema recorded some of his biggest margins, polling 40,544 votes against Mundubile’s 638 in Kalomo Central, while in Pemba he received 31,831 against 159. In Mbabala, Hichilema secured 29,850 votes compared with Mundubile’s 108, while Namwala West gave him 23,944 against 315.
A similar pattern emerged in North-Western Province, where Hichilema polled 22,224 votes against Mundubile’s 1,006 in Lumwana, 18,074 against 912 in Kalumbila, 15,482 against 394 in Zambezi Central, and 10,382 against 120 in Zambezi East.
Hichilema also dominated the Western Province constituencies in the latest batch, receiving 14,246 votes against Mundubile’s 159 in Liuwa and 9,642 against 67 in Kalabo South.
Mundubile, however, posted substantial victories across several Eastern Province constituencies. In Petauke, he received 33,587 votes against Hichilema’s 5,155, while in Lundazi he polled 27,531 against 9,551.
He also led in Mkaika with 16,584 votes against 7,791, Kapoche with 14,264 against 6,740, Milanzi with 12,509 against 6,784, Lumezi South with 11,467 against 4,342, and Chama South with 8,826 against 4,719. Luangeni produced a tighter contest, with Mundubile receiving 13,837 votes against Hichilema’s 12,386.
In Muchinga Province, Mundubile led in Mpika North with 19,489 votes against 4,322, Shiwang’andu with 16,575 against 6,676, Nakonde with 8,150 against 7,463, and Isoka with 6,710 against 5,388.
Northern Province also delivered victories for Mundubile, who received 16,880 votes against Hichilema’s 12,375 in Chilubi, and 13,336 against 4,058 in Kasama North
On the Copperbelt, Mundubile polled 25,668 votes against Hichilema’s 10,739 in Kabushi, 17,527 against 10,774 in Ndola Central, and 7,587 against 5,253 in Dag Hammarskjöld.
The candidates split the Central Province constituencies contained in the batch. Hichilema carried Kapiri West with 11,320 votes against Mundubile’s 3,847, while Mundubile led Serenje with 7,822 against 6,314.
In Lusaka Province, Hichilema edged Mundubile in Chilanga North, polling 11,366 votes against 9,346.
With 121 constituencies still outside the consolidated tally, the presidential race remains incomplete, with further results expected to determine how the national picture develops.
