NO FOREIGN INTERFERENCE DETECTED SO FAR IN CURRENT ELECTORAL PERIOD SAYS EXPERTS.
BY MERCY MULENGA
Human Rights Expert Eugene Mulenga, says the country has so far not recorded any manipulation of information or interference by foreign entities during the current electoral period, unlike the 2021 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with YAR FM News, Mr. Mulenga, said during the 2021 general elections, the then opposition UPND went around the world to complain about alleged human rights violations in Zambia and lack of respect for the rule of law.
He said the UPND, while in opposition, did a lot to win the narrative and sympathy from foreign media houses and institutions.
Mr. Mulenga, said this time around, the public has not seen opposition political leaders going out to complain and seek sympathy from outside the country.
Meanwhile, Government Expert Bwalya Matafwali, said international observers have so far not given any information apart from what is obtained on the ground, with no interference or manipulation of information recorded during the current electoral period.
Mr. Matafwali, said in order to determine whether elections are free and fair, there is a need to start from the time the campaign period begins and assess the events that unfold leading up to election day.
He said it is a good thing that foreign observers have come to the country before voting day, as this will enable them to gather first-hand information and give a post-election analysis based on what they experienced during their stay in Zambia before the actual voting takes place.
