NRPUP LAWYERS TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST ECZ
Aongola & Company representing the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), urgently addressed the Chief Electoral Officer regarding the 2026 General Elections scheduled for August 13.
They seek immediate clarification on two critical issues: the method of marking ballot papers, specifically the proposal allowing ticks/check marks instead of only crosses, which conflicts with Regulation 33(d) of the Electoral Process (General) Regulations, 2016.
They demand reinforcement of the requirement for a cross to be the sole valid mark and immediate correction of any inconsistent instructions. Additionally, they express serious concerns over reports of delaying the announcement and publication of results until August 17, which deviates from previous practices of progressive reporting.
In addition, they argue that transparency and verifiability of results are crucial for maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.
A written response is requested within three hours, emphasizing their clients’ commitment to a fair and credible election and indicating potential legal action if concerns are not addressed.
