Catherine Kaunda, the eldest daughter of Zambia’s founding President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, passed away in Lusaka on August 1, 2026. Her son, Mwenya Mwanza, confirmed that she died during a visit to the Zambian capital.

Following her passing, Government has been mute about her death or help.
Well-wishers are struggling to put her to rest and the burial has been delayed.
President Sam Nujoma’s government in the 1990s when Kaunda was under persecution took her in and gave her a house. Nujomas government also gave KK a house.
