POLICE ARREST GRANDFATHER OVER GRANDSON’S MURDER
Police in Monze have arrested a man in connection with the murder of his 10-year-old grandson.
The child was allegedly killed and buried within his yard.
Southern Province Police Commissioner Moono Namalongo said that the deceased’s great-grandfather, 74-year-old Paul Namugaba, reported to Police on Tuesday.
He had discovered a suspected grave within the yard of his residence.
Namalongo says Namugaba reported that his 10-year-old great-grandson, a child living with a disability who had been left under the care of his grandfather, was suspected to have been murdered.
This came after the child’s mother found the residence locked and discovered a suspected grave within the yard.
Police officers immediately visited the scene, exhumed the body and apprehended the child’s grandfather, who remains in police custody.
Namalongo explains that a postmortem examination was conducted on the body.
Medical findings indicate that the child died due to severe haemothorax resulting from assault.
He has assured the public that police are ensuring justice is served and will continue to pursue the matter to its conclusion in accordance with the applicable laws.
