An emotional Dan Burn has defended Thomas Tuchel’s decision to go defensive against Argentina:

🗣️ “We’ve done that in the last few games and seen it out well. So I don’t think that we can take massive criticism for going into that. When we’re in 4-4-2 defending, we were conceding a lot of chances. So something had to change. We’ve been pretty solid when we were a back five in the previous few games.

“The manager may want to have done something in hindsight, but also from the players we’ve taken responsibility to get through. I’ve been 10-15 minutes away from the World Cup final, we really probably should see it out.

“The difference for me is that I feel Argentina had been there, done that, and had the confidence that they were going to do it. I have to say that before I generally thought we were going to do it the whole time. When you get this level of football, it’s very fine margins. I know it’s an easy thing to say, but it is fine margins. Again, they took two chances.

“Honestly, I was in shock at the end. I didn’t really have a lot of emotion. I still feel pretty numb about it. When you come within 15 minutes of a World Cup final, 1-0 up, I was so confident that we were going to see that out. So there are a lot of people upset.”
