‎A UPND Alliance Partner has warmly received the decision to keep fuel taxes frozen for another three months, saying it shows the authorities are putting citizens first.

‎Charles Chanda, who leads the United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia party Uppz, described the extension as a timely and thoughtful intervention.

‎He stated the move will bring much needed relief to struggling families and small traders who depend on affordable transport and energy.

‎The government recently announced  that the suspension of excise duties on petrol and diesel, along with the removal of Value Added Tax on diesel, will now run from the first of July until the end of September.

‎Ministry of Information Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana confirmed that legal instruments have been issued under the Customs and Excise Act and the Value Added Tax Act to give effect to the decision.

‎Mr Kawana said the action is meant to protect everyday Zambians and businesses from escalating fuel costs while keeping pump prices steady.

‎He also noted the extension aims to shield the country from the ripple effects of turmoil in the Middle East, which continues to drive global oil prices higher.

‎The government has reiterated its pledge to pursue focused measures that preserve people’s livelihoods, sustain economic activity, and uphold national stability amid worldwide financial pressures.

‎But it was Mr Chanda who struck the most optimistic tone, praising the administration for listening to the concerns of ordinary people.

‎He urged fellow citizens to support the policy, saying it demonstrates a shared commitment to easing the burden on households during difficult times.

‎Mr Chanda added that such decisions build trust between leaders and the people they serve.
