ZAMBIANS ARE TIRED OF BROKEN CAMPAIGN PROMISES – HAPUNDA
Brian Hapunda, the Presidential Advisor for the Socialist Party and the party’s aspiring Member of Parliament for Chongwe West, says Zambians are no longer swayed by campaign promises after years of being disappointed by leaders they entrusted with public office.
Hapunda was responding to President Hakainde Hichilema’s appeal to voters to elect him for a second term together with United Party for National Development parliamentary candidates in the 13 August 2026 General Election.
According to Hapunda, many voters have already made up their minds because of their past experiences with leaders who failed to fulfil promises made during election campaigns.
“For far too long, Zambians have been let down by leaders they voted for. For far too long, Zambians have been lied to and given fake campaign promises by leaders they trusted with the mandate to represent them,” Hapunda said.
He argued that the repeated failure by political leaders to honour campaign pledges had created a more cautious electorate that now evaluates candidates on their credibility rather than campaign rhetoric.
“Because of this past experience, Zambians have said no to leaders who terrorize and who have failed them before, hence looking for new and sincere leadership throughout the country,” he said.
Hapunda further contended that voters would make independent choices at the ballot box instead of voting solely on party lines.
“By now, the Zambian responsible voter knows which type of leaders they want to vote for and to represent them in Parliament and in State House as President, respectively,” he said.
He maintained that the electorate would choose leaders they believe can deliver on their promises, regardless of political affiliation.
