🇬🇭 Exactly 65 Years Ago Today, The Woman on Ghana’s 50ps Coin Was Poisoned to Death.💔💯

65 years ago today on 22nd June 1961, Rebecca Naa Dedei Aryeetey, popularly known as Dedei Ashikishan  the woman on Ghana’s 50 pesewas coin  was poisoned to death during a CPP function in Ho.

According to accounts of the incident, Auntie Dedei took a drink that was believed to contain poison. Shortly afterwards, she complained of severe stomach pains, collapsed, and tragically died after vomiting blood, barely 30 minutes after consuming the drink.

At the time of her death, she was only 38 years old.
Auntie Dedei was one of the most influential figures in Ghana’s independence struggle and a key financier of the Convention People’s Party (CPP). She sacrificed her wealth, time, and energy to support Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the movement that eventually led Ghana to independence.

It is sad that a woman who gave so much to her country met such a painful end.

Sometimes, one wonders why we do this to ourselves. Why can’t we have a second thought about our actions before causing harm to others?

Auntie Dedei, your sacrifice for Ghana will never be forgotten. Rest in perfect peace.
