POLITICAL TENSIONS ESCALATE IN ISOKA AS POLICE PICK PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE SICHONE

Honourable Malozo Sichone, the Isoka parliamentary candidate for the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), was apprehended by police officers from Lusaka during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The official reason behind this unexpected action remains undisclosed, generating concern and curiosity among the public and political observers alike.

This incident follows a recent violent episode at Honourable Sichone’s campaign center in Isoka, where armed individuals linked to the United Party for National Development (UPND) attacked the venue.

Reports confirm that some victims sustained injuries serious enough to require admission to Isoka District Hospital, casting a shadow over the ongoing electoral campaign in the region.

Preliminary investigations suggest that escalating tensions between candidates are rooted in mounting political rivalry.

The UPND candidate, Marjory Nakaponda—formerly a member of the Patriotic Front (PF)—has reportedly struggled to gain traction in the constituency, potentially contributing to heightened aggression and violence within the campaign environment.

This episode is not an isolated incident, but it demonstrates the mounting hurdles to Zambia’s democratic process at the grassroots level under the UPND government.
