THERE IS NO OPPOSITION FALLACY DEBUNKED

As Zambia approaches the 2026 elections, the political arena is evolving in unexpected ways.

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has taunted the opposition, claiming that there is no opposition to President Hakainde Hichilema, and that the 2026 elections will be a walkover for him because the opposition is fractured, particularly within the Patriotic Front.

However, the voices from the citizenry have been suggesting a different narrative: that the true opposition to the sitting president is not merely another political party but the collective will of the people themselves.

This shift in political dynamics was vividly illustrated when Brian Mundubile emerged as a candidate under the newly formed National Restoration Party for Unity and Progress (NRPUP).

Despite being a relatively unknown entity before, NRPUP has experienced rapid growth, surprising many UPND supporters who had assumed that party loyalty would be the key factor in electoral competition.

The rise of NRPUP underscores the evolving consciousness among voters—they seem increasingly prepared to support any credible political alternative that embodies their desire for change, regardless of the party’s historical prominence.

What this signals is a profound transformation in Zambian politics: citizens no longer see opposition exclusively as a battle between established parties but as a demand for accountable leadership and sustainable governance.
