KAWANA  SETS THE  RECORD STRAIGHT ON REPORTED USD 1.5 BILLION US GRANT DEAL

The Ministry of Information and Media wishes to clarify remarks delivered by the Secretary to Cabinet during the United States of America National Day Celebration held on 28th May 2026 regarding the reported USD 1.5 billion five-year grant covering the period April 2026 to 2030.



In his remarks, the Secretary to Cabinet acknowledged and expressed appreciation for the Government of the United States of America’s offer of support to Zambia through the proposed grant. The remarks were intended to recognise the commitment and goodwill of the United States Government and should not be construed to mean that a formal agreement has been signed.



The Government of the Republic of Zambia wishes to state that it has not yet signed the proposed USD 1.5 billion five-year grant, as the grant remains under negotiations, as previously communicated.



Nonetheless, the Government of the Republic of Zambia appreciates the commitment by the United States Government to support Zambia through the proposed five-year grant, aimed at saving lives, strengthening systems, and improving the wellbeing of the Zambian people.



The Ministry wishes to encourage the public and media to rely on official Government communication regarding matters of national importance.
