Amb Emmanuel Mwamba writes;
Our Tribalism is Better-Oliver Shalala
I’ve just seen another write-up by a neglected member of the m23 justifying President Hakainde Hichilema’s excessive tribal and regional appointments.
Oliver Shalala says the current tribalism is better than the one practiced by the Patriotic Front.
This is a similar argument the m23 puts up when it comes to corruption,that their corruption is better than the government of the Patriotic Front.
He doesn’t get it.
The Constitution is very clear, the project of uniting Zambia is so critical to the survival of Republic of Zambia that the President is directed to make appointments that promote the unity of the country.
Another arguement made by the m23 is that these tribal appointments are justified because the appointees are “qualified” or “Zambians”.
The Constitution establishes the country as a unitary and indivisible state.
To actively foster national unity, Article 259(2) mandates that the President’s public appointments and nominations must, “where possible, ensure that they reflect the regional diversity of the people of Zambia.”
Its a zero tolerance situation.
