HH GIVES UPND 5 MILLION VOTES TARGET FOR 2026
LUSAKA, Zambia — Following his re-appointment by His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema, the UPND National Youth Chairman held his inaugural press briefing this afternoon at Le Elementos Hotel. Surrounded by a show of force that included National Management Committee member Francis Kope, National Youth Secretary Samuel Ngwira, and Provincial Youth Chairpersons from all 10 provinces and 116 district youth Chairmen, the Chairman laid out a rigorous roadmap for the upcoming general elections.
The briefing centered on three pillars: discipline, reconciliation, and a historic 5-million-vote target.
A Call for Discipline and Unity
With the nomination period approaching, the National Youth Chairman issued a clear directive to the party’s youth wing regarding the adoption of candidates:
Adherence to Leadership: Youths are expected to fully support candidates adopted by the President and the Secretary General, as recommended by the elections committee.
Burying the Hatchet: Acknowledging past internal frictions, the Chairman called for immediate reconciliation across all party structures.
“The strength of the party lies in its unity,” he noted, urging members to move past differences to focus on the national task ahead.
The “5 Million Votes” Target
The Chairman revealed a strategic mandate from President Hichilema to secure 5,000,000 votes in the upcoming election. He highlighted that this goal is well within reach, given that over 4,000,000 of the country’s registered voters are youth.
“The youth are the engine of this victory. It is your responsibility to ensure we deliver this mandate to President Hakainde Hichilema to secure the future of our nation.”
Non-Violence and Tolerance
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to democratic values, the Chairman pledged that the UPND youth wing would lead a campaign free of violence. He urged youth leaders to remain tolerant and to provide guidance to any members who might deviate from this peaceful standard.
Engagement of Civil Servants
In a notable closing remark, the Chairman reached out to civil servants who have been employed or promoted under the current administration. He encouraged them to advocate for the President’s developmental agenda within their homes and communities.
“The Time is Now!” the Chairman declared, signaling the start of a nationwide mobilization effort to retain the UPND in power and continue the country’s current trajectory of development.
