Chipolopolo Players Boycott FIFA Friendlies to Demand Arrears
By Mwamba Makonde
The Chipolopolo’s international friendly matches against Sudan and Tunisia have been cancelled, following a boycott by some players.
The matches, which were scheduled for June 6 and June 10, 2025, were part of the Chipolopolo’s preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the CHAN.
FAZ President, KEITH MWEEMBA has confirmed the cancellation of the two matches, however describing the national team players’ boycott as betrayal.
MWEEMBA has said at a media briefing in Lusaka that despite being owed allowances, the players did not need to refuse to honour national team duty.
And MWEEMBA has revealed that FAZ has serious financial challenges, with debts exceeding 100 million Kwacha, in unpaid allowances, accommodation costs and salaries.
He has explained that the current FAZ Executive Committee is scheduled to meet members of the previous committee as part of efforts to understand the full scope of the financial burden.
