4 MORE BODIES RETRIEVED FROM SENSELI OPEN PIT
Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo has disclosed that 4 more bodies have been retrieved from the Senseli open pit mine, days after the mine was closed.
Addressing the media in Ndola this morning, Mr. Matambo says this brings the total number of bodies retrieved to 31, and that government has since concluded the retrieval operation for last December’s mine accident
Mr Matambo explains that the last 4 bodies were discovered and recovered by small-scale miners who were on-site yesterday to close operations following a government order.
He says the families of the deceased have been informed and will be present for the identification process, while the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU will provide coffins for the retrieved bodies.
Mr Matambo has emphasized that as part of government’s intention to formalize mining operations, all activities at the site have been halted and reinforcements have been called in to secure the area in order to prevent more accidents.
