ZLA RAISES CONCERN OVER 99-YEAR LAND LEASE
The Zambia Land Alliance (ZLA) has expressed serious reservations regarding the proposed 99-year land lease to the Viet-Zam Diversified Development Corporation Limited.
The lease is intended for agricultural purposes and is set to be implemented in Luapula, Muchinga, and Northern Provinces of Zambia.
In a statement provided to Byta FM News, ZLA’s Executive Director, Patrick Musole, emphasized that allocating six million hectares of land to a single company for nearly a century is an irresponsible decision.
While acknowledging the need for foreign direct investment to drive development, Musole stressed that the country’s natural resources must be utilized responsibly and in accordance with established laws and policies.
Objective 5 of the National Lands Policy specifically governs land ownership by non-Zambians, and Musole urged strict adherence to this regulation.
He further called upon the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to ensure that project proposals align with national legal frameworks.
