ZAMBIAN OLYMPIANS RETURN HOME EMPTY-HANDED DESPITE PROMISES OF ALLOWANCES

Zambian athletes who competed at the Paris 2024 Olympics have come home without receiving promised daily allowances and winning bonuses.

Olympic medalist Muzala Samukonga publicly called out the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts for failing to fulfill its pledge to financially support the athletes during the games.

Samukonga explained that the athletes were assured of daily payments, which never materialized, causing distress and disappointment among the team.

He emphasized the importance of these allowances and bonuses to alleviate the pressures of high-level competition and provide financial support upon their return.

Urging immediate action from the Ministry, Samukonga highlighted the need for athletes to feel valued and supported, while also expressing concern about the potential damage to athletes’ morale and the reputation of sports administration in Zambia.
