ZAMBIA/GHANA TO ACTUALISE AGREED MoUs

President Hakainde Hichilema says there is need for Zambia and Ghana to actualise a number of agreements that have been signed between the two countries.

President Hichilema said the two countries must be able to progress with activities and arrangements agreed upon.

The President was speaking when the Ghanaian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Shirley Botchwer called on him at State House today.

He noted that the long standing relations that date back from the struggle for independence ought to continue through enhanced cooperation.

The Head of State referred to his last visit to Ghana where he met with his Ghanaian counterpart Nana Akufo-Addo and shared on a number of programmes including waste management that can be mirrored in individual countries.

“Am only pulling a few specifics to illustrate the importance of us to continue working together,” President Hichilema stated.

And the President commended his Ghanaian counterpart Nana Akufo-Addo for nominating Ms Botchwer in an international role.

He noted the need for Africans to actively participate in international roles so that they are able to make decisions that benefit the continent.

“We must be able to push for the change of financial architecture for the same business, Africa pays higher costs of capital than any other continent in the world,” the President said.

Ghanaian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Shirley Botchwer reiterated the need to ensure that agreements are implemented.

Ms Botchwer is of the view that the two countries can achieve more once progress is made.

She stated her country’s commitment to grow the cooperation with Zambia adding that Ghana is prepared to partner with Zambia on a number of joint ventures

“I believe that we are on a good course and that having signed all these agreements we need to finalise and implement them,” Ms Botchwer said.

Meanwhile, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Mulambo Haimbe disclosed that Zambia and Ghana today signed two MoUs in the areas of defence cooperation and enhanced relations.

Mr Haimbe said the MoUs are aimed at sharing best practices, exchanging ideas and ensuring strengthened bilateral relations.

Additionally, the duo also signed the Minutes of the Inaugural Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation.
