WITNESS LISTS VEHICLES ZRA ‘RESERVED’ FOR PF
A witness yesterday listed different brands, including a Toyota Hilux, Land Cruiser and Pajero, which were excluded from the list of those approved for auction to Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) employees.
Sitali Mulozi, a former ZRA administration manager, narrated that the exclusion of the cars from the advert was an instruction from the then director – administration Callistus Kaoma, who is jointly charged with former ZRA Commissioner-General Kingsley Chanda, 53, of wilful failure to comply with procedure as well as abuse of authority relating to the disposal of over 20 vehicles.
When first testifying in the case last November, Mr Mulozi testified that beginning 2017 until 2021, used vehicles which were supposed to be internally auctioned to ZRA staff were instead reserved for the Patriotic Front (PF).
Continuing with his testimony yesterday, Mr Mulozi said the exclusion of the selected cars was against ZRA policy on disposal of obsolete assets.
“The policy prescribes that everything that has been approved for disposal should be disposed of in the manner that was proposed as approved,” he said.
Both Mr Chanda, 53, and Mr Kaoma have pleaded not guilty to the offences allegedly committed between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2020.
Mr Mulozi had testified last year that the vehicles were awarded to the then ruling party for use during party mobilisation and campaign activities.
