wife of incarcerated Nixon Chilangwa has died

THE wife of incarcerated former Luapula Province Minister Nixon Chilangwa, Mwamba Kambikambi, has died.

Ms Kambikambi passed away today in Ndola after an illness.

The Patriotic Front (PF) has since appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security, the Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS), and the Government to consider the immediate temporary release of Mr Chilangwa to allow him to attend his wife’s funeral.

In a statement, PF Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda confirmed the death of Mrs Chilangwa.

“We wish to inform members of the Patriotic Front and the public at large that the spouse of our Deputy Secretary General and former Kawambwa Member of Parliament, Nixon Chilangwa, Mrs Mwamba Kambikambi Chilangwa, has passed away in Ndola after a short illness,” he said.

He extended condolences to Mr Chilangwa and the people of Luapula.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to Hon. Chilangwa, who is currently incarcerated at Mukobeko Maximum Correctional Facility in Kabwe, as well as to the Chilangwa and Kambikambi families, and to the people of Kawambwa and Luapula Province, where the works and social contributions of Mrs Mwamba Chilangwa were deeply felt,” Mr Nakacinda said.

Last year, the Kawambwa Magistrates’ Court convicted and sentenced Mr Chilangwa to 60 months’ imprisonment for malicious damage to property.
